Harley has developed a plan through 2022 to get more people riding. With a customer first attitude, according to Harley Davidson their strategy consists of:
- New Products – keep current riders engaged and inspire new riders by extending heavyweight leadership and unlocking new markets and segments
- Broader Access – meet customers where they are and how they want to engage with a multi-channel retail experience
- Stronger Dealers – drive a performance framework to improve dealer financial strength and the Harley-Davidson customer experience
Harley developing new products isn’t always exciting news for those of us who find Japanese and European bikes more appealing. But much like the increasing demand for SUVs and crossovers has forced automotive makers to ramp up development of these models, the increasing demand for naked sport bikes has led Harley Davidson to develop a new Street Fighter to take on the best from Triumph, Yamaha, and Ducati.
The Street Fighter will be 1 of 3 new bikes built on a new modular platform designed to support 500cc to 1250cc engines. The Streetfighter will have a 975cc DOHC 60° V-Twin. The somewhat stubby tail design seems to have cues taken from the Yamaha FZ-09, a motorcycle the Streetfighter will likely compete with. This new Harley is due to be released in 2020.
