2025 Toyota Camry: The Hybrid Horizon

The 2025 Toyota Camry arrives with a hybrid-only strategy to take on the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata.

As the automotive landscape embraces the towering dominance of SUVs, the mid-size sedan category holds its ground as a practical, family-friendly alternative. While the Hyundai Sonata and the Honda Accord have recently flexed their refreshed muscles, the spotlight is now on the 2025 Toyota Camry, taking a bold leap ahead of its competitors by embracing a hybrid-only strategy.

Under the hood, a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine joins forces with two or three electric motors. The first two motors, stationed up front, collaborate to deliver front-wheel power. For the first time in hybrid Camry history, all-wheel drive becomes an enticing option, adding a third motor at the rear for enhanced traction. The front-wheel-drive hybrid boasts a respectable 225 horsepower, while opting for all-wheel drive kicks it up a notch to 232 hp. Both configurations come paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The front fascia sports new headlights, adopting a running-light style reminiscent of the Prius and the Crown. The beaky front bumper keeps the signature Camry charm intact, while the rear end flaunts fresh yet familiar taillights.

Step inside, and the cabin unveils a blend of the familiar and the innovative. Drawing inspiration from the Crown, the Camry features a steering wheel and a medium-high center console that mirror its sophisticated cousin. The cabin boasts a wireless phone charger and a generous five USB ports across both rows. The LE and SE trims come equipped with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and a partially digital 8.0-inch gauge cluster, while the XLE and XSE models elevate the experience with expansive 12.3-inch screens.

The LE and XLE cater to those seeking a cushier ride, offering front-side acoustic glass, larger wheels, sophisticated headlights, leather seating, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, and ambient lighting. On the sportier side, the SE and XSE trims boast unique and stiffer suspension tuning, black trim accents, and distinct wheel designs. The XSE, in particular, stands out with a striking black trim piece bridging the taillights, a body-colored rear diffuser, and dual exhaust tips.

Anticipated for a grand entrance in 2024, the 2025 Toyota Camry is poised to captivate the market with its hybrid prowess. While pricing details are yet to be unveiled, the current Camry hybrid’s price range from just under $30,000 to a little over $35,000 offers a benchmark. With its flashy features and eco-friendly credentials, the new Camry is expected to carve a niche as an affordable yet sophisticated choice in the hybrid sedan arena.
