Since 2014 Ducati has manufactured over 50,000 Scramblers. The relaunch of the brand has no doubt been a plus for the brand. Now for 2019 Ducati is kicking off what it is calling the “Joyvolution.” The Icon version of the scrambler is getting some significant updates.
Powered by Ducati’s famed 803cc air-cooled single cam two-valve desmo engine, the Icon has 73 hp at 8,250 rpm and just shy of 50 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm. Throttle response and low rpm torque are enhanced by a Y-shaped manifold with long runners and a new tighter Termignoni 2-into-1 exhaust. The cable clutch system is now replaced by a hydraulic system. Service intervals are set at 7,500 miles.
Handling and power is delivered through an 18 inch front wheel wrapped in a 110/80-18 tires and a 17inch rear tire with a 180-55-17 tire. The frame is the same steel-tubing trellis found on previous models. The Icon has a Kayaba 41mm inverted fork and a side-mount shock absorber, good for 150mm wheel travel.
Stopping the Icon is a single 330mm Brembo front rotor assisted by the Bosch 9.1 MP Cornering ABS system. The ABS is always active and can’t be turned off.
The Ducati Multimedia System includes Bluetooth that allows access to music and phone calls. The switches and levers are also new. Visibility at night is helped by a new LED headlight with a daytime running light.
The seat is lower and now sits at 31.4 inches with new padding. The pegs are more ergonomically placed for better comfort. 62 Yellow and Atomic Tangerine are the two colors available.
